It was one of the undenaible TV highlights of 2018, and soon you’ll be able to relive The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story in full (or watch for the first time – for shame!) on Netflix in the UK.
All nine episodes of the second installment of Ryan Murhpy’s Golden Globe Award-winning true crime drama series will be available from next Friday (1 February), the streaming giant announced this week.
Starring Darren Criss, Édgar Ramírez, Ricky Martin and Penelope Cruz, ACS: Versace charts the series of tragic events that led to the murder of designer Gianni Versace (amírez) by spree killer Andrew Cunanan (Criss) in 1997.
The series won legiones of critical acclaim for its riveting exploration of wealth, sexuality and power in ’90s America, and Darren Criss’s mezmerising, haunting portrayal of Cunanan landed him the Golden Globe for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie earlier this month.

The Assassination of Gianni hasn’t been without controversy, with members of the Versace family publicly criticising the show for dramatising a painful tragedy on screen – but Criss told us last year he hoped relatives of the late designer saw
“I think [the Versace] family have every right and every reason to feel the way they do, who doesn’t understand that? he told us.
“What I hope they understand is that we’re not exploiting a story for commercial value: there’s a larger story at play here which isn’t about this one horrible thing, which is the Versace murder, but the investigation, the exploration of a time, and of course the other victims which until now haven’t had a lot of voice, at least in popular culture.
“I hope they would understand, and I’d like to think that if I’d ever had the chance to meet Gianni Versace I would have hoped he’d understand that we’re trying to create some light out of this darkness.”
