The Crown’s Freddie Fox: ‘Rounded experience’ of sexuality advantage for actors

Freddie Fox thinks having a “rounded experience” of sexuality gives actors an advantage.

The Crown star, speaking in a recent interview, also pointed to the experiences of out gay actor Rupert Everett to make a point about how times are changing when it comes to being open about one’s sexuality.

Freddie, who plays Mark Thatcher on the hit show [above], shared his views with The Telegraph.

“Perceptions are changing”

“I’m very interested in how the world is changing and how perceptions are changing,” said the actor, also known for his work on the TV show Cucumber. 

“If you look at someone like Rupert Everett, he would say that talking about his sexuality really altered the course of his career.

“I think being able to say that you have a more rounded experience as a human being, whether it be through sexuality, or whatever, is now perceived as a real advantage.”

The 32-year-old previously told the publication: “I’ve had girlfriends, but I wouldn’t wish to say ‘I am this or I am that’, because at some time in my life I might fall in love with a man.”

Asked if he regrets saying it, Fox said: “I don’t regret anything I’ve said.”

Series four of The Crown dropped on Netflix on 15 November.

Gillian Anderson, who plays former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on the show, recently said in an interview that she had to block out her opinions of her in order to take on the role.
