The first teaser for ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ season 2 is here
It was one of the breakout hits of 2015, so naturally we were thrilled when we heard Netflix comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt would be making a return to screens this spring.
Off the back of New York Fashion Week, producers have released a runway-inspired teaser trailer that sees Titus (Titus Burgess), Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) and Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) strut their stuff down the catwalk ahead of the season two premiere on April 15.
During a panel discussion last month, the show’s creator Tina Fey said the freedom of developing the comedy just for Netflix was “freeing”, reports Variety.
“We did talk about … whether, ‘Oh, well, I don’t think Kimmy would ever start cussing, but would she walk by people that were cursing horribly?’” said Fey.
“[But] we’ve realised that our audience is young — I thought, well, as a mum, I would hate to trust this show and then put on the second season, and then it was just, you know… prison sex.”
Burgess has previously said the comedy’s success stems from the failures of its key characters. “You never want a comedy about someone achieving a goal,” he said.
“You never want to give them their goal prematurely. Part of the comedy comes out of the tragedy of it never happening. Maybe in the last season.
“But what’s interesting is to see how Titus ends up when he doesn’t achieve his dream. That’s what happens to most actors in New York City.”
