‘The Imitation Game’ receives eight Oscar nominations

The Imitation Game

has been nominated for eight awards at the 87th Academy Awards.

The drama – which tells the story of gay Second World War codebreaker Alan Turing – has been nominated for Best Film and Best Director, while Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley have received mentions in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories respectively.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston, who had been expected to receive a mention in the Best Actress category following her Golden Globe nod appears to have been snubbed, despite receiving acclaim for her role in drug-themed drama Cake. Instead, Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Julianne Moore (Still Alice) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild) are now the major contenders to take home the prize.

Meanwhile, Meryl Streep has broken her own record for the most Oscar nods for an actress, bringing the total to 19 thanks to her nomination Best Supporting actress for her role in Disney’s Into The Woods.

Finally, British singer Rita Ora has been nominated for an Oscar for her song Grateful, which she recorded for 2013 film Beyond the Lights.
