The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus: ‘I’d rock gay storyline’
By Ryan Love
The Walking Dead
star Norman Reedus has discussed his character’s sexuality.
Fans of the hit show had long been unsure if Daryl Dixon was gay, something addressed by showrunner Robert Kirkman late last year.
He described Daryl as “somewhat asexual”, but confirmed that his team had moved on from any possible plans to have him come out.
In an interview with Conan O’Brien, Reedus said that he had been up for the plot, telling the host that he would “rock” the storyline.
“I was like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s do it’,” he said, before admitting that the rumours had led to a mixed reaction from fans.
“When that rumour went around, I would go to these conventions and you’d have these little kids [say], ‘Man, I don’t care what’s going on. You’re awesome!’
“And then you’d have guys my age or a bit older be like, ‘Err’ and then you’d have women. They were like, ‘You’d better not be [gay]’.”
He added: “To tell you the truth, if that’s the story they gave me, I would rock that story. I’m not afraid of it.”
The Walking Dead continues on FOX TV in the UK.
