The beloved classic The Wizard of Oz is set to be remade into an animation but told through the eyes of Toto.
Fans of the hit 1939 musical classic starring Judy Garland as the main character Dorothy will know that the Kansas teen travels the magical, colourful world of Oz accompanied by a Scarecrow, Tin Man and a Lion and of course not forgetting Toto.
Although there have been spin-offs – including Wicked – and sequels (Return to Oz) based around the hit musical – which itself is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s novel of the same name – the classic film has yet to be fully remade.
However, now an animated remake is set to be made by Warner Bros but will tell the memorable story through the eyes of Toto (who some may argue is the hero of the story), Screen Rant reported.
Based around Michael Morpurgo’s book ‘Toto’, the new movie will be helmed by Gnomeo and Juliet director Mark Burton.
Not much else is known at the time of reporting but all we can say is, keep the classic a classic and do not spoil it!
The Wizard of Oz has a large LGBT+ following with many claiming that when Dorothy leaves the dreary, dull land of Kansas and opens the door to the rainbow, colourful land of Oz, mirrors how many gay men feel about leaving to discover brighter, colourful cities.
Another connection is the rainbow flag, which may have been inspired, in part, by Garland’s song “Over the Rainbow”.
