Fox Studios have said there are no plans for Jussie Smollett to return in Empire.
The openly gay actor portrayed openly gay Jamal Lyons in the hit Fox series but was written out of the final two episodes of the fifth season after he was accused of faking a racist and homophobic attack back in January.
However, the charges against him were dropped by the city of Chicago and although the rest of the cast issued a letter begging for the actor to return in the sixth season, it appears Fox have taken a stand against him.
In a statement issued to E! News, Fox said: “By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season six, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to Empire.”
In Smollett’s last episode, we saw his character make TV history as his character went down the aisle to marry his partner – making it the first gay, black wedding ever.
