Tom Ford recalls first meeting with partner of 30 years Richard Buckley

director and fashion designer Tom Ford has described the moment he first met husband Richard Buckley, as they prepare to celebrate the 30 years together.

Speaking to People Magazine in their latest issue, the 55-year-old recalled instantly knowing he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Buckley when they first met.

“Richard was a fashion journalist and I was a young fashion designer, and we were at a mutual friend’s fashion show,” Ford explained.

“Our eyes locked. It was literally love at first sight.The fashion designer and filmmaker shares the secret to a long and happy relationship.We have been together ever since.”

The couple welcomed the birth of their son, now four, in 2012, having waited until Ford had controlled his relationship with booze, and went on to marry in 2014. In his interview with People, the director of A Single Man also shared his advice for what he believes to be the secret to a happy relationship.

“If the person you’re with is someone you respect, who you believe has as good a heart and soul as you will ever find, don’t ever leave them, because you won’t find anyone better,” he advised.

“Even if there are moments [or] even years that can be tough. Stick it out.”
