By Josh Haggis

Trans actor Scott Turner Schofield has been cast in The Bold and the Beautiful.

The daytime soap, which began back in 1987, is one of the longest-running shows ever on US television and reaches an audience of over 25 million viewers around the world.

Schofield, who will make his first appearance this week, will play a character who supports Maya, who recently shocked viewers by coming out as a trans woman during a dramatic scene on the show last month (March).

“I’m Maya’s best friend and I come from her world when she first landed in Los Angeles before she became the huge success that she is,” he told New York Daily News. “We met in the trans community together. I’m her friend that comes in and kind of help remind her that she is beautiful and whole and authentic exactly as she is.”

He added: “It’s going in the direction that transgender people can be happy about. And not only transgender people, but everyone who knows and loves a transgender person.”
