Troye Sivan has teamed up with Sigur Rós singer Jónsi for a moving new track from the official soundtrack for Boy Erased.
Sivan, who has a supporting role in the gay ‘conversion’ therapy drama starring Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe, unveiled ‘Revelation’ on Thursday morning (18 October) two weeks ahead of the film’s US release on 2 November.
The sparse piano ballad, which has already been nominated for Best Original Song at the Hollywood Music In Media Awards, encompasses the upcoming film’s themes of love, faith and self-acceptance.
Over backing vocals by Jónsi, Troye sings: “It’s a revelation / There’s no heaven where to found /No kingdom shell / How the tides are changing / As you liberate me now”.
Based on Garrard Conley’s 2016 memoir, Boy Erased tells the story of a teenage student struggling with his sexuality (Hedges), who is enrolled on a gay ‘conversion’ therapy course by his evangenical Christian parents (Kidman and Crowe) in the US Bible Belt.
It’s not set to be released in the UK until next February, but at least with the release of ‘Revelation’ we can set the mood for what is set to be one of the most important LGBT+ films of the year.
Boy Erased is released in US cinemas on 2 November and in the UK on February 8 2019. Check out the trailer below:
