Two gay penguins in Berlin moved to new ‘male-exclusive’ home

By Fabio Crispim

Stan and Olli are two male king penguins that were placed under the European Conservation Program (EEP) in order to reproduce with females to ensure the future of the species. However, what the Berlin zookeepers didn’t count on, was that the two penguins decided they were more interested in each other than female.

Speaking to The Local, Berlin Zoo spokeswoman, Christiane Reiss said “They’re gay as far as we know.”

“They never bred. And when it came to courtship, they only mated with one another.”

Olli and Stan have been moved to Hamburg, a male-exclusive sanctuary that includes another homosexual couple, Juan and Carlos.

The Hamburg penguin keeper, Dave Nelde, has said they’ve changed the penguins names and they’re “calling them Kalle and Grobi now.”

If that isn’t enough, two penguins in Bremerhaven Zoo shocked zookeepers when they ‘adopted’ an egg and worked together to hatch it after it had been cast aside by a heterosexual pair.

Isn’t that sweet?
