US band Priory celebrate LGBT love in new music video

By Kevin Long

Electo-pop band Priory have unveiled a new music video promoting a message of acceptance for LGBT love.

Following hot on the heels of the recent SCOTUS decision legalising same-sex marriage throughout the 50 states of the US, the video for their single Put Em Up celebrates love in all its forms and serves as an effort to put the ‘B’ and ‘T’ of LGBT to the fore of the final push for acceptance.

The band’s singer, Brandon Rush, spoke to Nylon about the video which he says was inspired by his gay brother’s struggle growing up in a religious, conservative family and his time spent in the military. “I’m happy that in the past couple of weeks our country has made a lot of progress in granting the LBGTQ community equality, but we all know we still have a long way to go.

“When we made the video, we wanted to show regular people doing regular things in an anonymous fashion until they came together in a place of mutual acceptance where everyone had a chance to be free to be whatever they were on the inside or outside.”

The black-and-white visual opens with a powerful quote by Emma Golden – “The most violent element in society is ignorance” – and ends with people from all parts of the LGBT community coming together in a safe environment of acceptance. The slightly NSFW-ish video ends with them together as one in the flesh.

“We wanted to show regular people doing regular things in an anonymous fashion until they came together in a place of mutual acceptance where everyone had a chance to be free to be whatever they were on the inside or outside,” says the singer when speaking more about the music video’s theme.

Put Em Up is taken from the Portland band’s latest album Need To Know.
