US conservatives trying to cancel Dan Savage-inspired sitcom

Anti-gay conservatives in the US are trying to get ABC’s upcoming Dan Savage-inspired sitcom cancelled before it’s even begun.
Titled The Real O’Neals, the sitcom is based on the life of the controversial gay activist and columnist, who is also serving as an executive producer on the series.
In an attempt to have the show removed from ABC’s lineup, anti-gay conservatives have sent more than 21,000 postcards and made over 4,000 phone calls to the network urging them to cancel the series before it debuts, reports The Star Tribune.
“A campaign for or against the show isn’t relevant at this point as the pilot isn’t even finished yet,” said Savage. “Again, the campaign is misdirected, as the show isn’t by me – I’m not one of the writers – and it isn’t about me.”
The show has yet to be officially picked up by ABC, who will announce their 2015/16 show lineup later this Spring.
