Vanessa Hudgens to star in live TV performance of ‘Grease’
By Josh Haggis
Vanessa Hudgens has been cast in a live TV adaptation of iconic musical Grease.
Following successful versions of The Sound of Music and Peter Pan, US network FOX have cast High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens and Dancing With The Stars performer Julianne Hough in the forthcoming adaptation, as Rizzo and Sandy respectively.
“Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” said Hough. “My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far.”
The adaptation – set to air on January 31, 2016 – has yet to cast the role of Danny, with the network reportedly finding it “tricky” to settle on an actor for the role.
Hudgens’ former boyfriend and High School Musical co-star Zac Efron was reportedly in line to play the character last year, saying that the role would be “big shoes to fill”. Find out more here.
