Vanessa Redgrave says she is not acting alongside Kevin Spacey in new film

Vanessa Redgrave has released a statement correcting reports she is to act alongside Kevin Spacey in the upcoming Italian movie L’uomo che disegnò Dio (The Man Who Drew God).
The veteran actress has insisted she is not appearing, despite “discussions about the possibility of her joining the cast,” and her husband Franco Nero directing.
News of the pair’s reported casting emerged earlier this week, following a fall from grace for American Beauty actor Spacey after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against him over the last four years.
“She will not appear in the film”
Following the reports, a rep for Redgrave said in a statement: “Vanessa Redgrave’s name is being included in recent stories relating to the casting of the upcoming film The Man Who Drew God.
“While there have been discussions about the possibility of her joining the cast, she will not appear in the film.”
The Man Who Drew God will be Spacey’s first film role since 2018’s Billionaire Boys Club; he was previously dropped from Netflix show House of Cards and replaced in the film All the Money In the World.
According to EW, Louis Nero, a producer on Spacey’s new film, recently said: “In Italy, we don’t know details on everything, so we don’t speak about what we don’t know about.
“I cannot speak about these things. I only know that Kevin is a great actor. That was my concern and no more than that.”
The allegations against Spacey began in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp said in an interview with BuzzFeed that Spacey had made a sexual advance towards him when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26.
In a statement, Spacey said he did not remember the alleged encounter, adding: “If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour.”
In the same statement, Spacey also came out as a gay man.
According to the NYT, several other men have made allegations of sexual misconduct against Spacey, with some becoming lawsuits; Spacey has denied all claims of sexual misconduct.
Redgrave’s husband Nero told ABC News: “I’m very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film. I consider him a great actor and I can’t wait to start the movie.”
Redgrave won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1977 for Julia. She is also known for movies such as Howards End and Atonement.
Spacey meanwhile won the 1995 Best Supporting Actor Oscar for The Usual Suspects and the 2000 Best Actor Oscar for American Beauty.
Attitude has approached a rep for Spacey for comment.
