Vivienne Westwood has made a video for animal rights group PETA in which she discusses the impact on the meat industry on the world water crisis.

The legendary British fashion designer takes to the shower for the video, which has been released in advance of World Water Day this Saturday (March 22).

While the hot water is running, the 72-year-old grande dame of punk explains how becoming a vegetarian can have a positive impact on the environment.

“I am an eco-warrior, but I take long showers with a clean conscience because I’m vegetarian,” Westwood says. “Rivers are diverted to miserable factory farms. The water goes not just to the poor overcrowded animals, but to grow the 15 lbs of grain it takes to make just 1 lbs of meat.”

Westwood then adds: “By avoiding meat, you do more for the environment than recycling or driving a hybrid car combined.”

Westwood made a name for herself as a protester after founding environmental group Climate Revolution and speaking at anti-fracking protests – as well putting her name to Lush’s knot-wraps, whose proceeds are used to help fund climate change campaigns.
