The first trailer for The Imitation Game has premiered online.

The teaser features the first footage of Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing, as well as scenes featuring co-stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode and Allen Leech.

StudioCanal has also confirmed that the drama will open this year’s London Film Festival on Wednesday, October 8.

The film is the English language debut from director Morten Tyldum, and will be distributed by The Weinstein Company.

Turing played an integral role in defeating Nazi Germany in the Second World War after solving the Enigma Code. He was later convicted of indecency when it emerged he was in a homosexual relationship, which was illegal in the UK in 1952.

He was chemically castrated as an alternative to prison, before committing suicide in 1954. Turing was issued a posthumous pardon by Queen Elizabeth II on December 24, 2013.

Later this week, the Pet Shop Boys will debut their new orchestral piece, based on the life and work of Turing, at the BBC Proms – read more here.

The Imitation Game will be released in the UK on November 14, with a US release a week later on November 21. The dates put the film in a prime position to pick up nominations in the 2015 awards season.
