Bette Midler and Laverne Cox star in the full trailer for the upcoming teen comedy Freak Show.
The film follows teenager Billy Bloom, played by Alex Lawther, who loves to wear glittery and flamboyant clothing. However, his life is upended when he is forced to go and live with his traditionalist father.
He endures taunts and bullying from his peers, and eventually decides to run for homecoming queen against a snobby popular girl (Abigail Breslin).
In the new trailer, Cox, who plays news reporter Felicia, asks Bloom: “How do you wanna be identified? Gay, straight, transgender?”
Bloom, who idolises Boy George and regularly quotes Oscar Wilde, coolly responds that he is a “gender-obliviator.”
The movie also stars Ian Nelson, AnnaSophia Robb and Celia Watson.
The movie is an adapation of the novel by James St. James and was helmed by Trudie Styler and will be released on June 22.
