Watch: Christina Applegate is hilariously terrible in spoof Meryl Streep biopic

Meryl Streep has had an illustrious career, in which she’s played incredible real life women such as Margaret Thatcher, Julia Childs and Emmeline Pankhurst: surely she’s deserving of a biopic of her own?

This is just what the team at Funny Or Die have imagined in this hilarious new spoof trailer, in which the Queen of the Academy Awards is played by another legendary actress: er, Christina Applegate, in the catchily-titled Meryl: The Lifetime Biopic with Christina Applegate.

In what appears to have been the best game of dress up ever, watch as Applegate takes on the role of Meryl in various films from The Devil Wears Prada to The French Lieutenant’s Woman to Mamma Mia (with vocals as questionable as Pierce Brosnan’s in that very film). With a fairly run of the mill, squeaky clean private life, the imagined Lifetime biopic appears to have trouble digging dirt on Meryl, so instead just “makes stuff up”. Check it out:

Now we’re just hoping Meryl returns the favour and plays Christina Applegate in a biopic. You just know she’d be incredible in it…
