Watch: Elle Fanning plays a trans teen in About Ray

Continuing a streak of transgender visibility in the media, director Gaby Dellal’s upcoming film, About Ray, documents the story of a teenager who’s transitioning from female to male. And it isn’t strictly just about Ray – it’s also about how a family comes to terms with such a transition.
Elle Fanning, 17, plays the titular character, Ramona, who of course becomes Ray by the end of the film. Thanks to the newly released trailer, we now have a glimpse of her performance, and it’s looking pretty powerful.
About Ray also stars Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon and Tate Donovan.
