The trailer for Lifetime’s upcoming Aaliyah biopic has premiered.
Titled Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, the TV drama will premiere on November 15.
The project has been marred by controversy, with the late star’s family failing to endorse the film and preventing any of her music being used within it.
Disney’s Zendaya was originally meant to take on the role, but has since been replaced by Nickelodeon’s Alexandra Shipp.
Wendy Williams, who serves as executive producer, recently defended the decision to move forward with the film.
“The family is not happy that the movie is being done but we did it so tastefully, I think the family would be proud,” she said. “We’re not throwing anybody under the bus.”
