Gwen Stefani has been a busy woman.

Divorce, heartbreak, relevance and romance have informed This Is What The Truth Feels Like, Stefani’s third solo album, released a full decade after 2006’s The Sweet Escape.

The 46 year-old described in an interview with OC Register that her life “unraveled last year”, after her split with former husband Gavin Rossdale.

However, Stefani used her pain “to get back on track,” crafting an album that’s hit number one on the Billboard Top 200 which celebrates the ups and downs of love and life.

“My confidence was coming back slowly,” she said. “When my life unraveled last year… it’s like, sometimes really bad things happen just so really great things can happen.

“And I think that’s what happened to me. It was like a wake-up call. It was like, ‘Get back on track and stop being insecure about writing and your gift and what you’re here for and stop being selfish and share what you’ve got.’

“That’s when it was really hard because I just wanted to get under the covers and eat pizza and cry, but I went to the studio and that’s This Is What the Truth Feels Like.

“That’s what this record is and that’s what I’m going to celebrate.”

Misery, the third single released from the album, is hinted to echo her romance with fellow Voice judge Blake Sheldon.

“You’re like drugs, you’re like drugs to me, I’m so into you totally,” Stefani sings. “So put me out of my misery, hurry up, come see me, enough, enough of this suffering.”

For Gwen, and for many of us, the song shows there is life after love – and we can celebrate the giddy feeling even after the worst heartbreak.
