Watch Joan Rivers storm out of live TV interview
By Nick Levine
Joan Rivers stormed out of a live interview on US news network CNN earlier today (July 5) after becoming frustrated with what she perceived as a “negative” line of questioning.
During the brief interview, the 81-year-old comedian was asked by CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield about her “mean” comments on E!’s celebrity style series Fashion Police, her close-to-the-knuckle jokes about the late Diana, Princess of Wales in her new book Diary of a Mad Diva, and her decision to wear fur on the book’s cover.
As the interview progressed, Rivers became increasingly irate, and after just two-and-a-half minutes decided to cut it short.
“You know what? I’m going,” Rivers told Whitfield, live on air. “All you have done [in this interview] is negative… I’ve have made people laugh for 50 years, I am put on this earth to make people laugh. My book is funny.”
“You are not the one to interview a person who does humour. Sorry,” Rivers added as her parting shot, before turning around and stomping off set.
Whitfield later told CNN viewers that she wondered if Rivers’ storming out was a stunt – decide for yourself by watching the interview below.
This is not the first time Rivers has hit the headlines this week. Yesterday she made a typically controversial joke involving the President and First Lady of the United States.
