Watch: Kim Kardashian discusses Caitlyn’s transition and sexuality on Ellen
By Will Stroude
Kim Kardashian used an appearance on Ellen yesterday (September 30) to reiterate her support for Caitlyn Jenner, and made it clear just how far her mother’s ex-husband has come since she overheard her own father refer to his ‘cross-dressing’.
Caitlyn has previously called Kim her most trusted family confidante when it’s come to the issue of her transition, and her former step-daughter was in typically supportive form when discussing the 65-year-old’s long journey from secretly dressing up in the garage to figuring out her sexuality since transitioning earlier this year.
Kim recalled overhearing her late father refer to Caitlyn – then known as Bruce – as a cross-dresser when she first married her mother Kris, but that it wasn’t until she accidentally came across Bruce dressed as a woman in the garage one night that it “clicked”.
The 34-year-old also touched on the topic of Caitlyn’s sexuality, explaining that the former Olympian hadn’t necessarily worked it out yet – and that there’s no rush to.
“I’ve asked Bruce this question – Bruce when he was Bruce so I’m not disrespecting Caitlyn by saying Bruce – I’ve asked Bruce when the transition was about to happen, ‘So does this mean you’re a lesbian because you were with my mom for so many years and his ex-wives and whatever?’ And he said: no, I was a heterosexual male.
“I’ve asked recently, and I think the answer is just still, he hasn’t, that’s not where her mind wants to go.”
“No matter if we don’t understand, no matter if people think it’s this crazy concept, it’s not for us to judge. If that’s how Caitlyn wants to live her life, then I support it and I’m so happy for her. I’ll try to do what I can do to make it an easy transition for other family members.”
Meanwhile, it’s just been announced that Caitlyn will not face criminal charges over a fatal car accident in California that left one woman dead earlier this year – click here to find out more.
