Watch | The ridiculous things LGBT people are asked ahead of Valentine’s Day
Gay rights charity Stonewall have released an amusing clip online just in time for Valentine’s Day, which asks, “What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve been asked about LGBT relationships?”
The minute length video features staff members from the charity who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, and they reveal some of the most weird and embarrassing questions they’ve been probed with, reports The Independent.
“So now that can gay people can get married, are you going to get married?” is one Wayne hears frequently.
“I think I need to get a dog first,” he says.
“So you’re mum’s a lesbian? Does that mean you were grown in a petri dish,” adds Sarah.
Stonewall spokesman Matt Horwood said Valentine’s Day could be thought of as an awkward day “at the best of times”.
“And it can be that extra bit cringe for lesbian, gay, bi and trans people, who often face questions on what makes their relationships different,” he said.
“While some of these questions can be amusing, and others lead to important conversations that create understanding, others are saddening and entangled in prejudice.
“Stonewall recognises the impact that these assumptions can have, and so some of us got together to shed a light on a range of these questions that they or their LGBT friends and family members have experienced.”
“We hope this video will create awareness of the assumptions the lesbian, gay, bi and trans community often come up against.”
