Watch | Tina Arena slays incredible ‘Hall of Fame’ performance
By Nick Bond
Australia held its own version of the BRITs today, the ARIA Awards, with a star-studded ceremony in Sydney. But all eyes were on one person: Tina Arena, who picked up a Hall of Fame gong to mark 25 years since the release of her debut album.
Arena – best known in the UK for her 1994 smash single Chains and accompanying album Don’t Ask – has remained active and popular in her home country through the years, as well as her adopted home of France. Her most recent studio album, Eleven, debuted at number two on the Oz charts earlier this month.
Tina was presented with her award by another Aussie pop goddess – Kylie Minogue – but it was her accompanying performance that has been met with universal acclaim. The Veronicas and Jessica Mauboy open the performance, of Chains – still Arena’s biggest worldwide hit. Two minutes in, Arena joins them… and respectfully shows these younger girls how it’s done:
Amazing. NEW SUPERGROUP PLEASE. Arena’s small but dedicated British fanbase will be pleased to know she’s heading back to our shores – she’ll perform a rare London show at Shepherds Bush Empire on Tuesday January 26.
