Watch: YouTube star Joey Graceffa comes out in new music video

By Will Stroude

YouTube star Joey Graceffa has come out in pleasingly 2015 fashion, by kissing a rather dashing prince in the music video for his new single Don’t Wait.

The 24-year-old vlogger and author, who has over four million subscribers on the video sharing site, has been dogged by speculation about his sexuality for years, but finally cleared up the rumours with the new video and a heartfelt accompanying message.

The understated clip sees the star lock lips with a male romantic lead, before an emotional Graceffa is shown saying how proud he is of the end result.

“This video has so much meaning and is really really special to me, so I’m very happy I was able to share it with you guys in the way I envisioned. And I’m just so really frickin’ proud of how it all turned out.”

“I really just hope it will be able to help some of you guys out there going through similar struggles that I went through, and can do some good in the world.”

He adds that the brief window into his personal life “is just one little small glimpse” of what he’ll explore in his new autobiography In Real Life: My Journey to a Pixelated World.

While the book is officially set to be released tomorrow (May 19), Google Books has already made public previews of the entire book available, including extracts in which Graceffa addresses his sexuality, according to Superfame.

In the extracts, he admits it took him so long to come out because being bullied at school for being effeminate left him “emotionally scarred”, and he thought that admitting he was gay would validate the bullies.

“I wanted people to focus on the things I was creating, not whether I wanted to kiss boys,” he says. “I needed something of my own that I could keep for myself.”
.
Explaining he “didn’t want to announce something that I was still figuring out for myself,” he continues to say that he’s now reached a turning point in his life.

“I’m proud to be who I am, and I’m tired of hiding and being afraid to share certain experiences.”

Taking to Twitter following the release of the video, he added it felt “incredible” to be open after years of avoiding the topic with his fans.
