Watch: YouTube star Shane Dawson comes out as bisexual

American YouTube star Shane Dawson has come out as bisexual in a moving new video.

The 26-year-old vlogger, singer and actor – who has over 6.7 million subscribers on the video sharing site – revealed that he had only said he was bisexual out loud once before, while in therapy, and that he is still coming to terms with his sexuality.

In the 14-minute video – which has been viewed more than 1.3 million times since it was uploaded yesterday (July 7) – Dawson admits he spent a long time wishing he he was gay because it would be “easier… to be accepted by people”. He was previously in a relationship with fellow YouTube star Lisa Schwartz.

“Over the last year I have been extremely sexually confused… I mean my whole life, but this last year is when it really hit me,” he says.

“I always wished that I was gay, that I was just 100 percent gay. For so many reasons, you know, number one, that would mean I knew who I was.

“Number two, it would be a lot easier for me to be accepted by people. Because I wear wigs and dresses on the internet and I’m feminine and all these things. And it would be so much easier to just say, yeah, you know, I’m gay.”

He continues: “But I’m not completely gay, and I can’t sit here and say that I am… but I also can’t sit here and say that I’m straight… This is something I’ve come to the conclusion through therapy and from being honest with myself… I am bisexual.”
