‘Will & Grace’ stars reveal what they think happened to Karen Walker
Former cast members of Will & Grace have speculated about what may have happened to Megan Mullally’s iconic character Karen Walker, while appearing on a televised NBC special overnight.
After weeks of anticipation, a tribute to Los Angeles based-director James Burrows – who produced all 188 episodes of Will & Grace – reunited Mullally with Sean Hayes, and Eric McCormack on stage at the Hollywood Palladium.
Debra Messing unable to attend the event, due to weather disruption from the NYC snowstorm at the time, and instead sent a video message.
When the event’s host Andy Cohen asked the three actors what Karen would be up to in 2016, Mullally and Hayes laughed that she was likely dead, or on the Republican campaign trail in the presidential race to the White House.
“She’d be married to Donald Trump,” joked Mullally.
The event also brought together cast members from Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Cheers and Mike and Molly.
Burrows told the Hollywood Reporter in the lead up to the broadcast he had never sought to actively win over a television audience for Will & Grace.
“We never set out to proselytize. We knew that if we could get the audience to watch it, somehow they wouldn’t leave it because it was so funny,” he said.
“You’ll notice at the end of the pilot, there’s a kiss between Will and Grace. And at the end of the first year, there’s a kiss between Will and Grace.
“In the back of my mind, I wanted audiences to think that somehow Will will take magic pills and become straight. He would never do that. We would never do that.
“But I wanted people to at least tune in to see how funny it was. I’m sure there’s a sector of the population that would never watch because it had gay people all the time. But I always say Ellen kicked the door open, and we broke it down.”
