Winner of BBC Three’s ‘Glow Up’ Attitude cover challenge revealed
Find out which contestant's work landed a spot on the cover of the Attitude Summer issue.

Thursday’s episode Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star saw the hit BBC Three make-up competition’s six remaining contestants put their skills to the test in a special challenge for Attitude.
The make-up artists (MUAs) were handed their bolded assignment yet by host Stacey Dooley as they were booked for a high fashion editorial – and though the task was simple the stakes were high.
Charged with creating loud and out-there looks that connected with the big trends of the Spring/Summer 2020 fashion season, the challenge winner would see their work run in print as a special edition cover for the Attitude Summer issue – out now to download and to order globally – with any which failed to impress being dropped from the issue’s fashion section altogether. Eek.
With renowned fashion and beauty make-up artist Andrew Gallimore joining show judges Val Garland and Dominic Skinner to assess the contestants’ looks, and Attitude Editor-in-Chief Cliff Joannou also on hand to provide feedback, all the contestants rose to the challenge – but there could be only winner.
After much deliberation, it was make-up artist and drag queen James Mac who was eventually crowned the winner, with his floral-themed make-up impressing the judges and landing his work on the cover of the upcoming Attitude Summer issue, which you can get a sneak preview of here.
The Attitude Summer issue – featuring a special edition cover featuring the work of Glow Up’s James Mac – is out on 18 June
You can check out the episode – which also saw Michelle Visage join proceedings as a guest judge – in full on BBC iPlayer now. But for now you can check out the work of all the contestants (with a little feedback from guest judge Andrew Gallimore) below…
JAMES
“I wasn’t quite sure where James was going with his interpretation of florals, but was so pleasantly surprised at what a beautifully bonkers bouquet it bloomed into. He got stuck in straight away and was not afraid of what was on the craft table… PING PONG James!”
BERNY
“Berny’s look for me really sews together the double denim outfit and the face. I love how he almost pattern-cut the denim pieces he adorned the face with, and then pushed it further by adding metal studs just like customising a pair of jeans.”
HANNAH
“I admired the fact that she started again after not being satisfied with her first look, and I think she showed some interesting techniques to represent stripes, I particularly liked the translucent glossy ones.”
EVE
“I loved Eve’s take on animal print, as she didn’t just literally replicate the snake skin but went to the snake itself for inspo. I also really like the heart/tattoo vibes, it was a bit ’90s Romeo & Juliet!”
BRANDON
“Hats off to Brandon for being confident enough to create quite a simple, gold look on the face but unfortunately we wanted him to push the boat out this challenge.”
OPHELIA
Sadly, viewers will know that Ophelia’s look wasn’t deemed strong enough to make it into print. But we’re still a big fan of her efforts at a ‘tie-die’-inspired look.
