By Josh Haggis
musical I Can’t Sing! is to close in two weeks.
The final performance of the troubled production will take place at the London Palladium on May 10, producers have announced.
The show originally opened to the public on March 26, following preview performances earlier in the month, which were marred with technical issues.
A preview was even abandoned mid-performance on March 17 because of one such technical difficulty.
Rebecca Quigley, CEO of Stage Entertainment UK, said of the show’s closure: “We are sad to be bringing I Can’t Sing! to a close, but are immensely proud to have co-produced the show. The West End can be an unpredictable place as the closure of a number of high profile productions recently has shown.
“I Can’t Sing! has had audiences on their feet night after night, four and five star reviews from the critics and an amazing company and creative team, but it seems that isn’t always enough, ” she continued.
I Can’t Sing! stars former EastEnders actor Nigel Harman as Simon Cowell, and is a musical comedy that pokes fun at the sharp-tongued mogul’s reality television empire. Harry Hill and award-winning composer Steve Brown wrote the script and music.
