X Factor winner to represent Australia at Eurovision

Singer Dami Im has been selected to represent Australia at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm.
Dami, a 27 year old Korean-Australian, gained national attention down under after winning The X Factor in 2013, where she was part of Dannii Minogue’s team.
After the announcement was made by Conchita Wurst at the Sydney Opera House, Dami took to Instagram, writing, “The secret’s out! I’ll be heading to Stockholm to represent Australia at 2016 Eurovision! Get ready Sweden… Australia is coming!!!”
Since her X Factor win, Dami has garnered number one singles, multi platinum sales, and multiple ARIA accreditations. Her hit singles include winner’s song ‘Alive’, ‘Super Love’ and ‘Gladiator’.
Australia’s Eurovision selectors made a statement saying, “We have selected Dami as the perfect artist to capture Europe’s attention with her unique personal style and show-stopping voice; an artist who is ready to showcase our musical talent to the world.”
She’ll be hoping to build on Australia’s efforts at their first ever Eurovision in 2015, where Guy Sebastian earned the country a Top 5 position. The country was invited to participate because of the strong following the contest has there.
Unlike last year, when Australia was a wild card entry straight to the Grand Final, Dami will compete in the second semi-final and must achieve enough votes to go through to the Grand Final.
Born in South Korea, Dami moved to Brisbane, Australia with her family when she was 9 years old, and enjoys a huge following in both countries, as well as in China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
