‘X-Men’ director Bryan Singer: ‘Abuse claims are outrageous’

director Bryan Singer has described the sex abuse allegations being made against him as “outrageous, vicious and completely false”.
The 48-year-old – who has been accused of sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy in 1999 – will no longer participate in media events for X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Michael Egan filed a lawsuit against the director in a federal court in Hawaii earlier this month, claiming that he had been subjected to drugs, alcohol and threats as part of the abuse.
On his decision to not take part in upcoming press for X-Men, Singer said: “I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from X-Men: Days of Future Past. This fantastic film is a labour of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career.
“So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I’ve decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film.
“However, I promise when this situation is over, the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shake down it is. I want to thank fans, friends and family for all their amazing and overwhelming support.”
Egan alleges that a “group of adult males similarly positioned in the entertainment industry” were involved in the abuse fifteen years ago.
