Iris Prize announces Best British jury for 2023
Queer Parivaar's Shiva Raichandani, who won Best British film last year is also on the panel.
Organisers of the Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival have announced the jury for the Best British category at this year’s festival.
The 17th edition of Iris will take place in Cardiff between Tuesday 10 and Sunday 15 October 2023.
Heading up the judging panel for the Best British jury will be Channel 4’s Tim Highstead, the Senior Film Editor of acquired feature films.
He will be joined by Adam Quigley, Head of Events at London’s Ministry Venues; Muffin Hix, an experienced film programmer who also works as Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Project Officer at Tate; Somina ‘Mena’ Fombo, a director and co-founder of Blak Wave Productions and the first Iris Prize Documentary Film Fund Recipient; and Shiva Raichandani, a BAFTA-nominated non-binary screenwriter, director, and producer. Raichandani won Best British film last year with Queer Parivaar.
The category is sponsored by Film4 and Pinewood Studios, with the winner receiving an exclusive screening of their film at Pinewood Studios and an invitation to be part of the jury in 2024.
Berwyn Rowlands, Iris Prize Festival Director, said: “We are pleased to once again welcome Tim Highsted back to chair the jury which rewards the very best of our homegrown talent. Tim is joined this year by four talented and exceptional individuals who will help find the winner of this prestigious award.
“There is more to the competition than showcasing the Best British films at the festival in October. All films in the Best British 2023 shortlist will be broadcast on Film4. This allows these 15 or so films to be watched and enjoyed by a much wider audience.”
The shortlist for the Best British award will be announced on Saturday 29 July.
