Madonna sparks Cardi B clash with Sex book 30th anniversary post
Cardi said she was "disappointed" after Madonna suggested that she paved the way for pop moments like 'WAP'.
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of her 1992 album Erotica and her S.E.X coffee table book, Madonna says that we have her to thank for the freedom of women celebrities, but Cardi B wasn’t impressed by the message.
Posting on her Instagram story (22 October), the 64-year-old singer-songwriter shared: “30 years ago I published a book called S.E.X. In addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone.”
“I also wrote about my sexual fantasies and shared my point of view about sexuality in an ironic way,” she added.
She notes that for the next few years she was interviewed by “narrow minded people who tried to shame me for empowering myself.”
The ‘Material Girl’ said she was called “a whore, a witch, a heretic and the devil,” during this period of direct shaming and hatred.
“Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball,” Madonna said. “You’re welcome b****es.”
Not everyone was overjoyed with Madonna’s sentiment, many felt the hit singer was claiming other’s success as her own.
Namely, Cardi B posted a series of tweets that outlined her disappointment and pointed out why Madonna’s statement was hurtful.
“I literally payed this woman homage so many times… she can make her point without putting clown emojis and getting slick out the mouth,” the 30-year-old hitmaker tweeted before later deleting the post.
“These icons really become disappointments once u make it in the industry that’s why I keep to myself,” Cardi B added with a link to a 2018 article that included her adoration of Madonna, explaining she grew up listening to her music with her mother.
However, the pair now seems to have talked it out.
Cardi B shared that she and Madonna have “talked” and “it was beautiful”.
Madonna also shared the news, tweeting out that she loves Cardi B, “always have and always will.”
‘Erotica’ peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit number one on Billboard‘s Dance Club Songs chart.
