Melanie C on unreleased Spice Girls songs: ‘W.O.M.A.N needs a banging remix’
Exclusive: "Maybe there's another life for W.O.M.A.N" says Sporty Spice.
Melanie C has reflected on the Spice Girls’ vault of unreleased songs.
The world-conquering girl band recently celebrated 25 years of the Spiceworld album by sharing another track from the era, Pepsi promo single ‘Step To Me’, to streaming services.
Last year, to celebrate the anniversary of the Spice album, the girls released the previously unheard ‘Feed Your Love’.
In the Attitude Awards issue – out now – Mel, 48, says: “The difficulty we had with Spice World is, we made it at the same time as the movie.
“When we were writing Spice, we had a lot of time on our hands, so there were a lot of demos. There’s more hanging around. With Spice World, it’s sparser. But we have some fun things up our sleeves.”
Asked if W.O.M.A.N, performed live on the 1999 Christmas in Spiceworld tour, will ever see the light of day, Mel said: “Biff [frequent SG co-writer Richard ‘Biff’ Stannard] had some lovely ideas around that,” Mel smiles.
“Maybe there’s another life for W.O.M.A.N. But you’ll have to wait and see. It needs a banging remix! I just don’t think it was ever as fully-formed as we needed. But, in essence, it was definitely an evolution [of the girl power message].”
Attitude’s Honorary Gay Award-winner also revealed her favourite solo Spice Girls’ tracks (Emma Bunton’s ‘What Took You So Long’ and ‘Maybe’) and her favourite Spice Girls’ tracks (Wannabe and Spice up Your Life.) “I love Viva Forever, but it’s hard to sing!” the star told Attitude. “It annoys me if I can’t get the low notes!”
