Netflix confirms Heartstopper season two has wrapped filming
Hopefully, we can expect the new season sometime in the Spring of 2023!
This is just the news we needed on a Friday afternoon! Heartstopper season two has wrapped filming, Netflix has confirmed.
Posting an image of Heartstopper creator, Alice Oseman with Kit Connor and Joe Locke as well as a filming slate on social media on Friday (2 December) the streaming platform wrote: “That’s a wrap on Heartstopper Season 2″.
Hopefully, we can expect the new season sometime in the Spring of 2023!
The cast confirmed in September that production on season two had begun. Earlier in July, casting was opened for the character of Sahar Zahid. Leila Khan won the role.
The response from fans was immediate and excitable, to say the least. One person demanded: “Season 2 when,” to which someone else replied: “they JUST said they wrapped”.
Heartstopper star Sebastian Croft wrote: “very proud and grateful to get to work with such a wonderful bunch of humans. can’t wait for you all to see what we’ve been doing”
When asked about a second season on the red carpet at the 2022 Attitude Awards the show’s leads, Joe Locke and Kit Connor (who play Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson), teased very little but hinted that as the show is based on comic books, fans should “do the research”.
Previously, Joe Locke shared that he wanted to see Charlie and Nick’s relationship develop. in season two.
“In the next graphic novel, Charlie struggles with his mental health and I’d love to explore that more. I think a lot of mental health and eating disorder shows tackle mental health in a way that is hard-hitting and really dark, but I’d love to come at these issues from a lighter place.”
Kit Connor echoed Joe’s thoughts when he said: “In Season 1, we very much see the young love and the beginnings of their relationship. And I think that it would be lovely, you know – not just to act – also just to see, as well, their relationship just, sort of, get stronger and blossom.”
Ever since Heartstopper‘s first season landed on Netflix in April it has been a stomper of a success, winning praise and acclaim the world over. Unsurprisingly, it was announced only a few weeks after it launched that seasons two and three had been greenlit by the streaming service.
Kit Connor, Joe Locke, Yasmin Finney, Will Gao, Tobie Donovan, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Rhea Norwood, and Jenny Walser are all set to return.
They’ll be joined by newcomers Leila Khan, Jack Barton as David Nelson, Nick’s older brother; Bradley Riches as James McEwan, a Truham school student; and Nima Taleghani as Mr. Farouk, a Truham school teacher.
