Red, White & Royal Blue’s Nicholas Galitzine cast as He-Man: ‘A dream’
"I’ve never been more excited than I am to see the interpretation of this haircut" said one film fan
Nicholas Galitzine of Red, White & Royal Blue fame has been cast as He-Man in upcoming film Masters of the Universe.
The superhero, first seen in the 1982 Masters of the Universe comics and later a hit TV series, has long been interpreted as queer-coded. (Meanwhile, Galitzine has won acclaim for playing gay roles in Red, White & Royal Blue and Mary & George.)
Bumblebee filmmaker Travis Knight is set to direct the film, previously in development at Sony and Netflix, for Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel.
Knight will work from a script by Chris Butler.
“Heart, humour and heroism” – Nicholas Galitzine
Responding to the news on Instagram today, Galitzine said: “‘By the Power of Greyskull, I HAVE THE POWER!’ I’m so beyond proud to announce that I will be playing Adam, Prince of Eternia in ‘Masters of the Universe’.”
The 29-year-old, most recently seen opposite Anne Hathaway in The Idea Of You, continued: “It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humour and heroism, I cannot wait to get started.”
“I’ve never been more excited than I am to see the interpretation of this haircut,” responded one follower on Galitzine’s Instagram page.
“As long as amazon mgm exists we don’t have to worry about nick’s employment,” said another, referencing Galiztine’s previous films for the platform, including Bottoms and The Idea of You.
His other screen roles include Purple Hearts and Cinderella. Galitzine’s Cinderella co-star Camilla Cabello was among the famous names to congratulate the star for his latest role on IG, with the ‘I Luv It’ singer commenting: “I’m so proud of you.”
“We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man,” said Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios. “Joining forces with director Travis Knight, Mattel, and Escape Artists, this reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was one of the first children’s programmes to be syndicated on television. From inception, the MOTU brand was built upon the message of becoming the best version of oneself and today, the franchise spans a variety of toys, television, and video games.
The film is set to reach cinemas worldwide on 5 June 2026.
