Sam Smith announces fourth studio album ‘Gloria’
Sam's new album will arrive in January following the chart success of Kim Petras collab 'Unholy'.
Sam Smith has announced the release of their fourth studio album, Gloria.
The ‘Stay with Me’ singer’s new record – their first since 2020 – is set for release on 27 January 2023 and will consist of 13 tracks.
Newly-released artwork for Gloria shows a bleach blonde Sam, 30, shirtless and staring straight into camera with their tattoo of two male figures kissing proudly on display.
Gloria follows the release of 2014’s In the Lonely Hour, 2017’s The Thrill of It All and 2020’s Love Goes; the last of which was delayed and renamed following the start of the Covid-19 pandemic (after originally being titled To Die For).
The announcement of Gloria comes as the album’s lead single, ‘Unholy’ featuring Kim Petras, spends a third week at the top the Official UK Singles Chart after debuting at Number One last month to become Sam’s eighth UK chart-topper.
The infectious track has also peaked at Number Two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it the highest-charting collaboration between non-binary and transgender artists in history on both sides of the Atlantic.
The provocative, cabaret-style music video for ‘Unholy’ was released last month, starring Smith and Petras. Directed by Floria Sigismondi, the video features fabulously queer cameos from RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Gottmik and Violet Chachki as well as adult film star Paddy O’Brien.
A decade after bursting onto the scene on Disclosure’s 2012 hit ‘Latch’, Sam has racked up 35 million album sales, 260 million single sales and 45 billion career streams.
The British singer, who came out as gay in 2014 and non-binary in 2019, has also picked up multiple GRAMMY and BRIT Awards, as well as a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
