17 pictures of Tongan Olympic swimmer Amini Fonua that will make you glad to be gay
By Will Stroude
Pride season is a time of year when gay men come together to celebrate all the great things about being gay: namely, an appreciation for guys as fine as Amini Fonua.
The Tongan Olympic swimmer, who was the country’s flag-bearer at London 2012, won hearts around the world when he called out The Daily Beast over a dangerously misguided article potentially outing closeted Olympic athletes in Rio last summer, and won even more when he sent the outlet a picture of his rear with an instruction to “kiss it and f**k off.”
Yep, if the 27-year-old’s bod is the secret weapon in the battle for acceptance, we’re liking our odds more and more by the day. And what makes Amini’s outspoken stance all the more impressive is that he’s one of the few athletes to represent a country where it sadly remains illegal to be gay.
“Sport is the final frontier for us to conquer,” says Amini as he poses for an exclusive shoot and interview in Attitude’s Summer issue – available to download and in shops now.
“We’ve conquered the arts, we’ve conquered fashion, we’ve conquered business. This is the final frontier.”
Well Amini, where you lead we’ll most definitely follow. Check out the swimming star’s steamiest moments below:
‘Show us more!’, we hear you cry? Well fear not, because here’s a bonus pic from our sizzling shoot with Adam in our new Summer issue. Buy in print, subscribe or download now.
