Covid-19: Global list of over 100 Pride cancellations and postponements

Amid the global COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, LGBTQ events and Pride festivals around the world are facing cancellation and postponement. 

Over 120 Pride events around the world have now been forced to cancel or change their plans due to the COVID-19 outbreak, according to data by European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA) and Attitude Magazine. 

This morning [23 March] Pride in London, which sees over a million pack onto the streets of the capital, has postponed. News from the others in the big three Prides in the UK including Manchester and Brighton have yet to announce cancellations. However Manchester released a statement on Friday evening saying they are keeping this under close review. 

Many more prides are announcing postponements for the time being, with many unable to say when the event will take place. 

Events have been cancelled as far ahead as those planned in late July. 

As measures across the world in response to the virus differ, this is shown in the data too. Most European prides affected have cancelled, while USA prides are postponing, with dates to be announced. 

EPOA’s board meeting due take place in Rome next weekend will now take place online and they have said their response to COVID19 will be a key topic for discussion.

The organisation added: “A large number of Prides are awaiting clarification on their governments’ positions in relation to mass gatherings, and how long bans will remain in effect; we anticipate a large number of prides will make announcements in the coming days.”

It is known that the offices of Copenhagen Pride (DK), Oslo Pride (NO), and Pride Barcelona (ES-CT) have been closed, with staff working from home already.
