Gay rugby tournament lands aussieBum sponsorship

By Joseph Kocharian

Men’s underwear brand aussieBum have been announced as the official sponsor for this year’s Bingham Cup tournament – the “World Cup” of gay rugby.

The Bingham Cup is held bi-annually to promote rugby union as an inclusive and non-discriminatory sport, this year it is being held in Sydney Australia. The tournament was established in the memory of Mark Bingham, a keen rugby player and out gay man who was tragically killed on board United Airlines Flight 93 during the 9/11 attacks.

As well as getting their hands on the trophy, the winning team will be supplied with a range of the latest aussieBum underwear. Check out a sneak preview from the range below.

Bingham Cup president Andrew Purchas said of the partnership: “We are very excited that aussieBum is joining us in welcoming the overseas rugby players and supporters to Sydney. The company is a very well-known and respected Australian brand in the gay community around the world.

The tournament organisers have also initiated the first ever international study into homophobia in sport to coincide with the event. The ‘Out on the Fields’ survey is set to shed light on the prevalence of homophobia among athletes and fans around the world, and is being backed by former Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas.
