Grace Jones will headline New York City Pride this year.
A star of New York’s Studio 54-centered disco scene in the ’70s, the famously outspoken Jones scored UK hits throughout the ’80s with tracks like ‘Pull Up to the Bumper’, ‘Private Life’, and ‘Slave to the Rhythm’.
And now, the Jamaican-born singer and actress has been announced to be taking to the Pier 97 stage on June 29.
She said: “I couldn’t be more excited to perform in front of my LGBTI friends and the community that’s supported me for so many years during WorldPride 2019.
“Saturday’s Pride Island line-up will be a celebration of everything that the community stands for and will go down in illustrious history.”
Chris Frederick, Managing Director of NYC Pride, added: “We’re thrilled to be able to create this multi-day experience, which speaks to an inclusive set of Pride-goers, during one of the biggest Pride events in the world.
“With the iconic Grace Jones headlining on Saturday and the incredible list of curated talent, this musical experience is definitely not to be missed.”
Pride Island Director Jose Ramos said: “We’re planning an action-packed weekend of live performances, that will build upon the excitement of what Pride attendees know as Pride Island, for our biggest and most inclusive year yet.
“We’re turning up the heat this year, in honour of WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50. It’s slated to be a truly unforgettable celebration.”
For those who won’t get chance to see the iconic singer performing at WorldPride are in luck as Grace will be taking to the stage at Brighton Pride’s LoveBN1Fest this summer.
