Nick Jonas has ‘nothing to prove’ when it comes to his sexuality
Nick Jonas can’t seem to shake off those rumours about his sexuality, fuelled by his appearances in gay bars with brother Nick, his refusal to confirm or deny his sexual history with men, and his portrayal of gay characters on the small screen (rather well too, we might add).
But only a few months since addressing ‘gay baiting’ allegations, where the 23-year-old singer said sexuality played no part in deciding which acting roles to take on, Jonas told Complex magazine sexual preference should also not be an issue for other people in a more broader sense.
“The goal is acceptance on all levels – that should be the focus,” he said.
“I’ve gone to normal clubs, straight clubs, and I’ve gone to gay clubs, to party with my friends and fans. There’s no difference. I have nothing to prove.
“I’m very comfortable in my own skin and I’m thankful to have as many close gay friends as I have, people who have been so supportive in my life, and have always been there for me.”
The ‘Levels’ singer also said, “as a heterosexual male” he was “open and comfortable about loving my fan base, gay or straight, because to me there is no difference”.
“Your sexual preference does not matter to me and it shouldn’t matter to anybody” he said.
“I thought [the criticism] was kind of dumb, considering I play this gay character on a gritty show [Kingdom]. There’s a gay sex scene. I kissed a man.”
