Why the internet’s abuzz about Argentinean actor Joaquin Ferreira

It seems Kevin Bacon’s plea to #Freethebacon is taking immediate effect across Hollywood: Argentinean actor Joaquín Ferreira has done just that, making quite the impact with an – err – impressive performance in a new Netflix show.

Starring in Club de Cuervos, you don’t need to understand Spanish to understand just how big of a… role the actor plays as “El Porto” in the 13-part original Spanish-language comedy, which explores a feud among sibling heirs to a soccer club after its billionaire owner dies.

Appearing completely naked in some scenes, Queerty reports Ferreira was cast soon after nailing his audition with series star and producer Luis Gerardo Méndez.

“When he walked into the room, he got it,” said Mendez.

“It was very clear that his character had to be the sex symbol that would have all the girls and gay boys attached to the TV screen.”

Mendez said the series, which was filmed in locations around Mexico, originally centred on a basketball team but later adapted with four American who had worked on hit shows Scrubs, The Sopranos and Californication.

“We took them to Mexico and had a lot of interviews with players, coaches, referees, journalists and prostitutes; a lot of people involved in the football business. With that they began to develop ideas and build the universe where they would live the characters and, above all, the issues that were going to play.  “Still, the game in this series is a backdrop. It is the stage to talk about a lot of things. The series speaks to the power of what happens when the power falls into the wrong hands and what makes you empower people, ambition.”
