Attitude Pride at Home, our inaugural digital festival celebrating love and diversity over nine days and two weekends, begins this coming Saturday evening on YouTube.com/AttitudeMag from 8pm BST. And the stars have well and truly come out for a huge Opening Party, in partnership with Klarna.
The positively awesome Kathy Sledge will kick off proceedings with an exclusive at-home performance of her Sister Sledge classic ‘We Are Family’, a clarion call for unity, faith and to gather our sisters close.
And you bet we will, girl, we are going dancing – not least to the lovely Katherine Jenkins OBE who, exclusively for Attitude and Pride at Home, has recorded her interpretation of Donna Summer’s anthemic ‘I Feel Love’ and a quite fantastic execution of ‘Never Enough’ from The Greatest Showman. Hats are off.
Bright Light Bright Light, another Welsh native blessed with a voice though now via New York, delivers his own fantastically self-deprecating ‘I Used To Be Cool’ and (with a virtual Jake Shears) the journey of self-discovery that is ‘Sensation.’
He completes the set, though, with a cover of George Michael’s ‘Spinning the Wheel’, which is a delight to behold.
Similarly charming is the hugely talented Josef Salvat, all the way from Australia to wherever you are, before our headliner for opening night: the sheer force of nature that is Yungblud.
A proud and unashamedly ballsy singer-songwriter hailing from Doncaster, and the first ever-Attitude cover star to send us a video of themselves buying a copy of the magazine from his local corner shop, Yungblud’s eclectic, life-affirming energy is channeled exclusively for us into a three-song acoustic set.
The uplifting ‘Weird’ references human indifference to human difference, and encourages anyone and everyone to be proud of who and what they are, while the energetic ‘Parents’ tells us those who create us aren’t always right.
In fact they might well be making it all up as they go along. It’s an emotional finish with ‘Waiting for the Weekend’, but we are encouraged to snog along. And stay to the end, Yungblud might just have one for you….
Our at-home performers done and dusted, we lean into an hour-long set courtesy of the ever-fabulous DJ and music producer Jodie Harsh. A former Attitude intern (we made her what she is today, obviously), Jodie packs sufficient energy into a gold and glitter-drenched set to power a small country.
She’s not generally the ‘requests’ kind of DJ, but we have insisted that her recent single ‘Filthy Rich’ makes the cut as it’s a banger.
