She-Hulk’s Tatiana Maslany stars in queer horror short film Snatched
The 10-minute film is part of Hulu's Bite Size Halloween
The star of the recent Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Tatiana Maslany has taken on a new spooky role in a new short film ahead of Halloween.
Snatched sees Maslany star opposite her husband, Brendan Hines, and the non-binary actor Misha Osherovich.
The 10-minute film is part of Hulu’s Bite Size Halloween and sees Misha as Joey – a gay, 15-year-old boy – who comes out to his parents one night.
The short’s synopsis says he “must fight for his life when his parents react with otherworldly acceptance.”
Misha’s character has a brief moment of joy with another boy in his room before his parents interrupt forcing Joey’s friend to leave out the window.
Joey’s seemingly conservative parents don’t seem to react terribly well to his coming out with Joey’s mum (Maslany), saying “We’ll get through this” and leaving conversations until the following day.
As Joey goes to bed we see blue lights falling from the sky before it cuts to the following day.
Heading downstairs for breakfast Joey hears pounding music and finds his mum making pancakes in a “I ❤️ my gay son” t shirt, while his dad is kitted out in denim short shorts.
“What are guys wearing?” asks Joey only to be told “it’s fashion”.
Things only get weirder and weirder for Joey as his dad tries to show him how to put a condom on a banana and his mum begs him to take her shopping because “Mama’s got to get snatched. Okurrrr!”.
Joey’s protestations seem to hurt his mum’s feelings at which point his dad admonishes him with a ‘Yas Queen’ fan.
“You guys, I’m no different than I was yesterday,” insists Joey. Tatiana replies “But we are” as her eyes flash blue.
As Joey tries to make an escape he’s caught up by his parents who briefly dispatch Joey’s friends.
It becomes evident that more and more people in the community have been taken over by something as everyone’s eyes begin to light up blue as more light meteors rain down from the sky.
In the comments on YouTube people are responding well with one person saying they thought it was inspired by the 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a concept “still disturbing” years later.
Another person added: “I’m so glad I found this randomly last night, TOO FUNNY” with many more praising Tatiana for her comedy chops.
