Sir Elton John to headline Glastonbury 2023 in final UK gig
The 'Rocket Man' singer's set will wrap up the UK leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Sir Elton John is set to headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2023 in what will be his final UK gig.
The ‘Tiny Dancer’ singer will take to the stage on Sunday 25 June to wrap up the UK leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. After that, Sir Elton has seven dates left to play in Europe before he retires from touring.
In a statement announcing his headlining at Glastonbury Sir Elton says, “There is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans.
“I can’t wait to embrace the spirit of the greatest festival in the world. It’s going to be incredibly emotional,” as reported by the BBC.
The ‘Your Song’ singer also says he “couldn’t be more excited” to play at Glastonbury given the stories he’s heard from people on his radio show.
“Glastonbury is often cited as a pivotal moment in launching their careers,” he shares. “The festival’s genuine, enthusiastic support for the best emerging talent is something I’ve long admired.”
Glastonbury organiser, Emily Eavis, says: “It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year.
“This will be the final UK show of Elton’s last ever tour, so we will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send-offs.”
Elton has recently finished the US leg of his farewell tour after delays caused by Covid and a hip injury. He concluded the US section with a three-night stay at the Dodgers Stadium, where in 1975 he iconically played there in a bedazzled Dodgers uniform.
Brandi Carlile, Kiki Dee, and Dua Lipa were among the guest stars to join him for the three-night run.
Glastonbury 2023 will run from Wednesday 21 June to Sunday 25 June. Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium is available on Disney+.
