If the trailer is anything to go by, the final season of Young Royals could be the most dramatic yet.

Netflix dropped the official trailer for the third and final season of Young Royals on Wednesday (7 February).

The trailer sees the young prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) torn between his love for Simon (Omar Rudberg) and his duty to the monarchy. After flashes of what looks like a passionate and fiery sex scene, we see Wilhelm deal with the consequences of his speech at the end of season two.

There he admitted it was his in the leaked sex tape after his family had tried to bury the truth. “I just wish we could have a private life,” he says. “One day you will be an amazing king,” he is told. We then see him come face to face with cousin August (Malte Gårdinger) who leaked the tape.

Tensions run high during a family meeting in a palatial room. Wilhelm exclaims: “There’s no way I’m letting you take over!” at August. On the polar opposite end, Simon seems to provoke questions of whether Wilhelm could step away from the monarchy. “I’ve seen how it makes you feel,” he tells Wilhem in a picturesque scene by a lake. After being told by his mother, Queen Kristina, “You’re supposed to be able to take over from me,” Wilhelm then wonders: “What if I don’t want to?”

As media attention closes in on Wilhelm and Simon, other threats emerge against the young lovers. Elsewhere, life at Hillerska is under threat due to an investigation. At times it appears Wilhelm and Simon’s relationship comes under strain, understandably so. Sara (Frida Argento) and August’s relationship also comes into focus potentially with hurt feelings all around.

A synopsis reads: “Wilhelm’s speech has consequences not only in the court but also throughout the school, as Hillerska confronts the worst crisis in the school’s history. The prince and Simon are determined to be together, but what are they willing to sacrifice when realizing that their freedom and love might be at odds with the Royal ideals, traditions, and responsibilities?”

Young Royals season three will premiere in two parts. The first five episodes will debut on 11 March. Then the sixth and final episode will premiere on 18 March.

Young Royals seasons one and two are streaming now.
