Celebrate Burns Night – there’s a drink for everyone

We've got you covered for Burns Night (Promotional)

By Fabio Crispim

Ahead of the Scottish national celebration of renowned poet, Robert Burns, what better reason to indulge in a fine whisky or even an untraditional, twist on a Burns Night drink, a tequila Old Fashioned…

Whether you’re a whisky connoisseur, you don’t know anything about whisky, or don’t even like whisky, there’s a drink for:

The whisky drinker:  Hakushu 12 Years Old

The Hakushu 12 Years Old from Suntory Japanese Whisky; straight from the untouched forests, mountains and pure waters of Japan’s Southern Alps, it is no wonder that Hakushu is a “green and fresh” whisky, praised by the most curious connoisseurs and lovers of gastronomy.

Enjoy it neat, on the rocks or as a Highball for a sublime Japanese whisky experience.

Buy at the Whisky Exchange (£99.95).

The whisky novice: Chita Single Grain Whisky

This is the first single grain whisky from The House of Suntory Whisky.

Suntory’s Chita Single Grain is a whisky with enough complexity for the whisky connoisseur and a mild enough character for those just starting to explore the world of Japanese whisky.

Enjoy it in a Highball, Japan’s most popular whisky serve.

Buy at the Whisky Exchange (£49.95).

Highball Recipe:

Ingredients

•   1 part chosen whisky

•   2 parts soda water

•   Garnish with a slice of ginger (Chita Single Grain) OR A sprig of mint (Hakushu 12 Years Old)

Method

Chill a highball glass with ice (best served over good quality, cocktail ice)
Pour 50ml Chita Single Grain into the glass
Stir the ice with the whisky and pour the soda into the glass on the back of a bar spoon in order to keen the carbonation
Add the appropriate garnish

Those who don’t drink whisky but what to join in the fun:

Patrón Añejo tequila is a delicate blend of uniquely aged tequilas, aged in small white oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months. Each bottle is numbered by hand, individually numbered and crafted using mostly recycled glass. Smooth and sweet, it’s perfect for the non-whisky drinker looking to get involved in the Burns Night celebrations.

Whilst it is perfect neat, we recommend mixing it into the traditional whisky style cocktail an Old Fashioned.

Make your next Old Fashioned – a tequila New Fashioned

Buy at the Whisky Exchange (£50.45).

New Fashioned Recipe

•   60ml Patrón Añejo Tequila

•   7.5ml Simple Syrup

•   1 dash Bitters

•   + Orange peel for garnish

Method

Over a double old-fashioned glass, use a vegetable peeler to take off two strips of orange zest, making sure to express the oil into the glass.
Add Patrón Añejo tequila, simple syrup, and bitters. Add ice—the biggest cubes you can find—and stir.
Adjust sweetness to taste.
